On 23 February, Belarus celebrates the Day of Fatherland Defenders and Belarusian Armed Forces. The President congratulated soldiers, sergeants, warrant officers, and veterans on the holiday. "From time immemorial, our land has been revered for warriors who stood up to defend it in difficult times. Sacrificing themselves, they defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland, the message of greetings reads. This was the case 85 years ago during the black years of the Nazi invasion. Then the Red Army, our grandfathers and great-grandfathers saved the country and the people, breaking the back of the fascist beast and leaving us a legacy of Great Victory. We must always remember this and honor the feat of the heroes, because oblivion leads to the fact that everything can happen again."
