The EU Special Representative for Human Rights continues his visit to Belarus. Today Stavros Lambrinidis is scheduled to take part in an international conference organised by the UN mission jointly with the Belarusian Foreign Ministry and European states.
Yesterday, the EU Special Representative met with the Belarusian President. During the meeting, Alexander Lukashenko stressed that Belarus stood for an ongoing dialogue on human rights with the European Union. According to the President, such a delicate matter as human rights is difficult to be sorted out at individual one-time events and it is necessary to establish regular trade, economic and investment cooperation. Alexander Lukashenko is convinced that with the development of economic cooperation, many issues of a humanitarian nature, including human rights, will be taken off the table.
In turn, Stavros Lambrinidis pointed out the European Union"s intention to significantly increase cooperation with Belarus in all areas.
