Belarus starts filing applications for registration of initiative groups

The main election campaign has started in Belarus. From this day until the end of the working week, presidential candidates can apply for registration of initiative groups. The collection of signatures in support of the nomination of candidates will begin on May 21, and will last almost a month. During this time, candidates will have to collect at least 100,000 voter signatures. A prerequisite of this campaign is compliance with all security measures. Collectors will be required to comply with the social distancing recommendations, wear masks and gloves. Nomination of candidates will take place on June 20 – July 4, registration will last until July 14. After this, the canvassing will begin. The presidential elections in Belarus will be held on August 9.
