The National Bank presented a new graphic symbol for the Belarusian ruble
20 years ago, a graphic symbol of the Belarusian ruble was chosen from two Latin letters — Br. For some reason, the National Bank noted, it didn't catch on; virtually no one used it in calculations or publications. Therefore, the decision was made to announce a competition. The most important criteria were recognition, association with the Belarusian ruble, and simplicity. Applications that met these criteria were selected from the received ones, and then the best were submitted to a public vote. Preference was given to the works that most fully developed the authors. The new symbol received the most votes. Nearly 2.700 applications were submitted for participation. Vasily Shchebetun was named the winner of the competition for the best new graphic symbol. His work received the maximum total points. The author was awarded a prize — a certificate for 3.000 Belarusian rubles.
