Recognize guilty of genocide posthumously. The Supreme Court of Belarus passed a verdict without sentencing in the criminal case of Khatyn punisher Konstantin Smovskiy. The commander of the 118th battalion of the security police organized and directed the execution of punitive operations on the Belarusian soil during the Great Patriotic War. And remained unpunished for a long time. Due to his death the guilty verdict against Smovskiy was passed without imposing punishment. The case was considered in open court. The state prosecutor specified that the battalion was formed on the basis of the Ukrainian nationalist formation, was taken under the wing of the Nazis, was stationed in Logoisky district in Pleshchenitsy, from where its representatives from January 1943 regularly traveled to punitive actions. K. Smovskiy was present and directly participated in the murder of innocent civilians of Khatyn. After the war, K. Smovskiy fled to the West and died in the United States in 1960. Having lived to the age of 70, he was never brought to justice for the atrocities committed. The authorities of a number of Western countries preferred not to be interested in the bloody past of this man. Belarus put a dot in the case. And this criminal case is not the last. It is announced that two more criminal cases will soon be submitted to the Supreme Court for consideration. The names of the accused are not disclosed yet.
