Last night the Belarusians celebrated Kupala Night, or Kupalle. Traditionally, the holiday is accompanied by weaving wreaths, finding the fern flower and circle dancing. For instance, the Kupala Night celebrations in Gomel featured ancient rites, theatrical performances, fashion shows, fine and applied art exhibitions, artisan workshops and competitions. The main event was the burning of a stuffed doll Mara, followed by setting flower wreaths adrift on the river.
