New opportunities for regional medicine. A unique heart operation was performed in Belarus at the Vitebsk Clinical Hospital. A minimally invasive technology was used to implant an aortic valve with a maximum size of more than 30 millimetres. It was delivered to the heart through blood vessels using a catheter, making only two punctures in a thigh. Previously, surgeons had to open the chest and stop the patient's heart to install similar implants. Last year alone, the Vitebsk Clinical Hospital performed more than 20.000 operations, one third of which were complex and high-tech.
