One of the rarest organisms on the planet has now
been recorded in Belarus. A new lichen species for the country was discovered
by scientists from the Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy
of Sciences. The unique find was documented during field research in the Buda‑Koshelevo
biological reserve. The rarity was found in an oak grove on the resin of a
European spruce. Scientists counted about four hundred fruiting bodies, which
makes the Belarusian population one of the largest in the world.
