The President of Belarus made this statement during a meeting with Yury Slyusar, Governor of the Rostov Oblast. Lukashenko noted that the construction of a new nuclear power plant had been discussed with the Russian partner Rosatom state corporation. The Head of State stated that he had also discussed this issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation on 15 November. According to the Belarusian leader, Putin supported the idea of building a third power unit at the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP). "We are ready to build the third unit. The President has absolutely no objection — I feel and know his support. The head of Rosatom has his absolute support. Of course, they are interested in this," Lukashenko noted. "Especially since we are 85-90% ready to build this plant ourselves. Well, the engineering and the reactor are Russian. We will take these key elements from Russia, and we know how to do everything else. The Russians taught us how to do it during the construction of the first plant". Speaking about the skills of Belarusians, the President noted that they are assisting Russians in the construction of power plants abroad. In particular, Belarusian specialists are working on nuclear power plant construction in Hungary and Egypt.
