Eurovision in Belarus
Eurovision is a popular world-class contest of pop songs, in which the countries that are part of the European Broadcasting Union participate. For the first time Eurovision took place in 1956 and since then it has pleased spectators annually. Based on the conditions of the competition, each participating country chooses one candidate or a vocal group that must perform a song live.
For the first time Belarus took part in Eurovision in 2004. The first participants representing our country were Alexandra and Konstantin. Their song took the 9th place in the semi-finals. Until 2007, candidates from Belarus were able to reach only semifinals. This tendency was changed by Dmitry Koldun, who performed well at the Eurovision Song Contest and took the 6th place. Till now none of the Belarusian participants have been able to break this very record. NAVIBAND represented Belarus at Eurovision 2017. They took the 17th place in the final.
Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Belarus
Junior Eurovision in its format practically does not differ from the standard pop song contest, the main limitation is the age of candidates. Only performers under the age of 15 can participate in the contest.
Since 2003, Belarus has been actively participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. In 2005, Xenia Sitnik brought victory to her country with the song «We are together.» Alexey Zhigalkovich brought the second victory in 2007.
It has already become a tradition to hold Junior Eurovision in Belarus. For the first time our country hosted this contest in 2010. The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will be held in Minsk.
