Ministry of Anti-Monopoly Regulation and Trade advocates a 20% share in retail turnover for large retailers in a certain territory. This issue was discussed at Minsk-based Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers. The position of the government agency is also shared by business. Increased market power for retailers could lead to the closure of smaller private convenience stores and price volatility. According to the regulator, the current legislation in Belarus does not restrain the development of retail chains. Amendments to the law on trade will be discussed by the House of Representatives. All of them have already been supported by the MPs.
