This is an industry-heavy region of Belarus, oil is extracted and refined here. 80% of fuel oil and gasoline for cars comes from here. The region produces all of Belarusian pulp, sheet glass, mineral wool, paper, cardboard, as well as machines for metal processing. The region is also famous for its combine harvesters. Those are used to harvest grain, corn, and fodder crops both in our country and elsewhere. The harvesters are supplied to 70 regions of Russia. A joint venture has been established in Bryansk, which is developing "Polesye" combine harvester with 96% of Belarusian and Russian components. Gomel region also presented its tourist potential. Due to the proximity of the borders, the region is very interesting for Russians. One can not only improve one’s health at Belarusian health resorts, but also travel to historical places. Among those is Belarus’ most ancient town of Turov. Or Viatka, which, like Moscow, has its own Red Square. And, of course, Gomel itself with its main attraction, an architectural monument from the 18th-19th centuries, the Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace.
