In 2018 Belarus increased the export of electricity by more than seven times. This was noted during Belarusian Energy Ministry’s board session. The same task is set for 2019. The Baltic States remain the priority market. The possibility of exporting electricity to various countries connected via interstate electric lines – Ukraine and Russia – is under consideration. Last year, for the first time since Belarus gained independence, the country did not import electricity. Electricity import was substituted with electricity generated using domestic energy sources at a lesser cost.
