The Energy Ministry of Belarus does not plan to resume electricity imports. This year, for the first time in sovereign history, Belarus refused to import electricity. This was made possible thanks to companies’ modernization that allowed substituting imports with local energy generated at lower costs. At the same time, the export of electricity has increased significantly. Belarus is ready to work on the common electricity market of the Eurasian Economic Union starting 1 July 2019. Since the beginning of the year the electricity production in the country has increased by 11.5%. This allowed to reduce electricity tariffs for industrial consumers by 5%.
