The apple harvesting season has begun in Belarus. In the south of the country, in the Brest region, foreign varieties are successfully cultivated. They have adapted well to the local climate. The apple orchard of the Ostromechevo agricultural enterprise is one of the largest in the region. It covers 245 hectares. This season has seen some good yield. The branches literally break with the weight of the fruits. The apples are packed in boxes and then sent to be stored. The enterprise has set up special conditions for conservation. To keep the apples fresh, oxygen is pumped out from the chambers which are then filled with nitrogen. From the warehouse the fruits are transported directly to retail chains, other outlets, and exported. Today, quality Belarusian apples are readily bought in Russia.
