Kupala Night, or Kupalle, is one of the oldest folk holidays. It is believed that on the Kupala Night trees, grass and animals are talking and hidden underground treasures are glowing. The main pastimes on Kupalle are jumping over a fire to clear oneself of disease, weaving wreaths and setting them adrift on rivers, doing circle dancing and, of course, searching for the fern flower (Paparats-kvetka).<br>Having preserved Kupalle"s ancient rites, its organisers have added a modern twist to the holiday. This year"s Kupalle entertainment programme is diverse. On 9-10 July, Kupalle celebrations will traditionally be held in the Alexandria agrotown.
