Today Belarus celebrates the International Children's Book Day. The date was not chosen randomly, as the great writer Hans Christian Andersen was born on April 2. This day was first celebrated in 1967, initiated by the German writer, journalist and translator Jella Lepman. She devoted all her life to children's literature and emphasized the value of educational books for young readers. Traditionally, contests, exhibitions, and festivals dedicated to children's books, as well as meetings with famous writers, are held on this day around the world.
