Day of Belarusian Cinema was established in 1994. The first Belarusian screenwriter and director are Vladimir Korsh-Sablin and Yuri Tarich. Belarusfilm has produced over 500 feature films, several thousand documentaries and about 100 cartoons. Among the most well-known Belarusian feature films of different years are Red Leaves by Vladimir Korsh-Sablin, The Alpine Ballad by Boris Stepanov, People from the Swamp by Viktor Turov, From Hell to Hell by Dmitry Astrakhan, Belye Rosy and Dunechka by Alexander Efremov and Brest Fortress by Alexander Kott.
