Senator elections begin in Belarus

Elections to the Council of Republic, which is the upper house of the Belarusian parliament, have started today to run until 13 September. Senators are elected by secret ballot at regional and Minsk City Council meetings. 56 people will be elected and 8 appointed by the President.The Central Election Commission is to announce election results and register the elected senators by no later than 30 September.
