Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit opens in Bishkek
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit opens in Bishkek today. Leaders of China, Russia, India, and other states will take part in the meeting. Belarus President is visiting the Kyrgyz Republic as well. Belarus has an observer status in the SCO. Aleksandr Lukashenko is to take part in the meeting of the Heads of State Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The head of state will outline Belarus’ stance on the topical issues of the international agenda and ways to promote cooperation within this integration project. Today the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has 8 member states occupying 60% of the territory of Eurasia with the population of 3 billion. Among its priorities is strengthening stability and security, the fight against terrorism, separatism, extremism and drug trafficking, the development of economic cooperation, energy partnership, scientific and cultural interaction.
