President of Belarus holds meeting with Synod of Belarusian Orthodox Church

The dialogue of the state and the church, religious peace. These and other questions were discussed at today"s meeting of the Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church. The Head of State participated in the discussion. One of the president"s theses: the church is not a socio-political organization, but a powerful creative force. Alexander Lukashenko hopes for a deeper involvement of the church in social processes. On the occasion of the great holiday the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Head of State, Metropolitan Pavel and Metropolitan Filaret lit holiday candles. Alexander Lukashenko touched the relics of John the Baptist. The shrine was brought in Minsk from Serbia.
