Belarus participating in BRICS summit for the first time

The forum in Johannesburg starts today. More than forty foreign leaders will attend it. The association aims to bring in new members. More than 23 countries have applied for BRICS membership. Belarus is among them. Currently, more than 40 percent of the world's population reside in the BRICS member states. The BRICS countries already provide more than one third of the world’s GDP. Based on objective realities, we can say that the BRICS influence in the world will steadily increase. Moreover, BRICS plans to break the monetary hegemony of the United States. The countries want to launch a new digital currency backed by gold.
Belarusian delegation at the BRICS summit will be headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik.
