The level of Belarus' energy independence has increased to 30%
At the end of last year, Belarus reached a record level of electricity consumption: over 43 bln kilowatt-hours. This is the maximum value in the history of Belarus. Such growth contributes to improving electricity supply for the population, supporting energy-intensive industries, and developing electric transport. The number of electric cars on Belarusian roads has increased almost fourfold over the last three years. Today, Belarus meets almost one third of its own energy consumption. In recent years, the country has been doing without importing electricity: its own capacities are sufficient. However, the share of imported natural gas is still high. At the same time, BelNPP has reduced these supplies. Now the feasibility of building another NPP or an additional power unit is on the agenda. The decision will be made this year.
