Sludge into fertilizer
01.11.2022
An environmental project is to be implemented in Vitebsk. Sewage sludge will be turned into fertilizer. It is the only project of its kind in the country. It was developed by specialists from "Vitebskvodokanal" company. Sewage treatment plants in the region produce about 30 thousand tons of sewage sludge annually. The waste is stored at a 56-hectare site in the Vitebsk district. Special machinery tills the sludge there. It is mixed with filler such as wood waste, fallen leaves, or straw. The compost "matures" in natural conditions for three months. Thus, up to 24 thousand cubic meters of compost is produced per year.
