Belarus National Bank considering introduction of digital ruble
20.04.2023
According to head of the National Bank Pavel Kallaur, the concept has already been approved. A demo platform for testing the currency is currently under development. Many of the world’s central banks are working on this matter, studying the possibilities, estimating the potential and carrying out pilot researches. The technology is of the greatest interest for cross-border payments, which is especially relevant in the context of sanctions. Whether it is expedient to introduce the digital ruble in Belarus will be decided by the end of the year. The decision will be taken at the highest level, the National Bank points out.
