Traditions of Belarusian straw weaving

In the Mogilev region, straw weaving is one of the most common types of folk art. The data bank contains more than 60 masters and craftsmen. Among them are 15 members of the Union of Masters of Belarus. Most of all, the craft is developed in Mogilev, Bobruisk, Bykhov, Kirov, Gorki districts. And separately – in Agrotown Korovchino, Dribin district, and the village of Gronov, Cherikov district. Masters of the local Houses of Crafts conduct master classes, pass on their knowledge to schoolchildren and everyone who is not indifferent to folk art. The craft of straw weaving is several thousand years old. And it began with ancient rituals associated with the cult of bread and fertility. Straw has become a brand of Belarus. Products from it have no analogues in the world.
