Belarusian parliamentarians have ratified the agreement between Belarus and Russia on the formation of a unified electricity market of the Union State. It enables the countries to improve the efficiency of electricity supply, aims to level the playing field between the two countries, and allows consumers to choose their own suppliers. The Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade have been designated as the authorized bodies for managing the unified electricity market of Belarus and Russia. The agreement on the formation of the unified electricity market was signed by the presidents of the two countries at a meeting of the Supreme State Council in Minsk last January.
