Today Orthodox Church celebrates the Commemoration Day of Saint Nicholas, the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia. He became famous by performing various miracles and selflessly serving the Lord. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of travelers, poor and slandered people, wrongfully convicted. Both Orthodox Christians and Catholics pray to him, people of other religions also hold Saint Nicholas in high regard. People sometimes refer to him as Saint Nicholas of Winter. It is said that the real winter begins on this day, the rivers and lakes freeze. Saint Nicholas loved children very much and was nicknamed Orthodox Grandfather Frost by contemporaries.
