The Olympics have long gone beyond the personal achievements in sport - it"s a great political event and a great honor for the country. This was stated by the Head of the State, President of the National Olympic Committee Alexander Lukashenko as he was presenting the national banner to the captain of the Olympic team. The event took place in the Hall of thePalaceofIndependence.Today Minsk hosted a solemn see-off ceremony of Belarusian sports delegation leaving for the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.Belaruswill be represented by 144 athletes in 25 sports.The first group of Belarusian athletes will leave for Rio de Janeiro on 23 July. The Olympic Games will be held from 5 to 21 August, with 306 medal sets to be competed for.
