The day before President Alexander Lukashenko discussed national security with the top officials from the State Secretariat of the Security Council. Belarus is currently presiding in the CSTO, its priority being promotion of the organization internationally and increasing its effectiveness. The upcoming Zapad 2017 army exercise are to demonstrate consistency in ensuring the security of Belarus and our closest ally, Russia. The meeting's agenda also included matters related to optimization of the army and law-enforcement. The work of the country's law-enforcement agencies over the first 6 months of the years yielded positive results. Particular attention was paid to ensuring security during the Second European Games, which Minsk will host in 2019.
