Polotsk celebrates Saint Euphrosyne Day

Today orthodox believers are celebrating the Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk Day. She was the first woman to have been made a saint in Belarus. Saint Euphrosyne was not just a nun, but also an enlightener. She built churches. The walls of the monastery she founded were painted by the best masters, and the Transfiguration Church is the apex of Polotsk architecture. A religious procession from the Saint Sophia Cathedral to the Saint Euphrosyne monastery gathered more than five thousand believers.
