Orthodox Christians celebrating Holy Thursday

It’s Maundy Week for the Orthodox Christians. Today the believers are celebrating Holy Thursday. According to the Gospel, on this day Jesus gathered his disciples for the Last Supper, washed their feet and shared bread and wine with them. Today, priests traditionally repeat the rite, and all Orthodox churches hold services with the ritual of washing. Popularly, this day is also known as Clean Thursday because on this date people do a clean-up at their homes, and begin baking celebratory cakes and painting Easter eggs.
