Orthodox Christians celebrating Candlemas

Today Orthodox Christians celebrate the Candlemas. This is one of the great holidays of the Christian calendar. It symbolically marks the meeting of the Old and New Testaments, the people of God with their Savior. On this day, festive liturgies are held in churches and candles are consecrated. Traditionally, for the Slavic peoples the Candlemas is the time when winter meets spring, and the weather on this day is believed to predict that in spring.
