Minsk hosts an international conference on death penalty. The forum was organized by the Foreign Ministry of Belarus and the United Nations office in our country. It is attended by diplomats and experts from the UK, USA, Italy, Spain, Kazakhstan, Switzerland. The Constitution of Belarus provides for the temporary nature of the death penalty. It is used as an exceptional measure for the most serious crimes. According to the EU Special Representative, the most severe punishment should be life imprisonment. The Foreign Ministry notes that Belarus has always taken a balanced position on the issue of the death penalty.
