October 1 – International Day of Elderly People

The day of the elderly people is celebrated in the world today. In Belarus there are just over two million elderly people, or every fifth person. The majority are women (almost one million 700 thousand). A hundred-year boundary was overcome by 396 people. Foster families have appeared in the country for single aged people. There are already 13 families of such type. Most of them live in the Minsk region. This year in Belarus, pensions were increased twice: since May and August. A further increase in payments depends on the capacity of the social security fund. More than 2.5 million Belarusians now receive a pension. The average amount of labor payments by age is almost 375 rubles.
