On June 22, Belarus marked a mournful date — the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People. The price of victory in that war was very high for the republic — every third resident died. On this day, Belarus remembered those who, at the cost of their lives, fulfilled their duty to defend the Motherland, all those who died at the hands of the fascists and died in the rear from hunger and deprivation. A requiem concert was held in the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex. Belarusian and Russian artists took part in the musical and theatrical performance. Tragic and heroic episodes of the defense of the Brest Fortress were recreated at dawn. More than 600 specialists from Belarus, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland worked on the historical reconstruction.
