Island of Courage and Sorrow in Minsk hosted Remembrance Day

Belarus recalls its heroes who fell in Afghanistan. The memory of the dead soldiers was honored with a minute of silence on the Island of Courage and Sorrow in Minsk. Deputies, Afghanistan veterans, and family members of the fallen internationalist soldiers laid wreaths at the memorial. On the occasion of Internationalist Soldiers Remembrance Day, Alexander Lukashenko addressed internationalist soldiers and said that Belarus praises living heroes and remembers all its sons who have not returned from that war, honors their memory and mourns together with relatives and friends. The war in Afghanistan affected the lives of 30,000 Soviet families. 771 Belarusian soldiers died in battles.
