ID-cards and biometric passports to be issued as from January 1

As of January 1, 2021 instead of the usual passports Belarusians will be issued ID-cards, and biometric passports for trips abroad. The system testing is now being completed. The ID-card will have a photo of its owner and personal data. And any additional information, such as place of registration, information about children will be contained in state information systems and resources. The biometric document for traveling abroad will be issued as a passport book with an integrated microcircuit containing an electronic means of biometric identification. It is planned that Belarus will completely switch to ID cards instead of the current passports in 2030.
