Eastern Slavs are celebrating one of the most joyful and tasty periods in the folk calendar – Maslenitsa, or Butter Week. The holiday symbolizes the end of winter and the approach of spring. Apart from entertainments, for Belarusians it was also a period when they paid great attention to the family and ancestors, and also thought about starting their own family. Maslenitsa ends with a symbolic burning of the straw figure of the Winter.
