The St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Gomel welcomed one of the main relics of the Belarusian Orthodox Church — the reconstructed Cross of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk and the ark with a part of the relics of the saint. The national relic will stay in the city above the Sozh River for a week. The history of the Polotsk cross began in the XII century. In 1161 St. Euphrosyne blessed master jeweler Lazar Bogsha to create a table cross. During the Great Patriotic War, the national shrine was lost. The cross was restored only in the XX century. The relic is kept in the Saint Euphrosyne Monastery.
