Belarusian
yoghurts, kefir and cottage cheese may appear in the diet of astronauts. This
will become possible after successful research: 16 strains of Belarusian
probiotics and bifidobacteria have been tested during a space flight to the
ISS. To assess their effect on the human digestive system, a study was
conducted. The tests showed positive results. All this became possible after
the space mission: last spring, the first Belarusian female astronaut Marina
Vasilevskaya successfully conducted biotechnological experiments on the ISS.
The main goal was to find out how probiotics behave in zero gravity. The
results were positive, confirming the resistance of microorganisms in space. A
prototype of space yoghurt has already been created by scientists and is
undergoing additional tests.
