Into space with a Belarusian tomato! Tomato seeds for a school experiment are being sent into orbit today. The Bion-M spacecraft will be launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome at 20:13 Minsk time. Children from three schools are participating in the experiment: Belarusian Ivye, Russian Moscow and Minusinsk. The seeds, like the entire "crew" of the bio-satellite, will spend a month in space and return to Earth. The goal of the project is to assess the impact of microgravity conditions and space radiation on the growth, development and productivity of tomatoes grown from seeds that were on board the spacecraft. When the seeds return to Earth, the schoolchildren will plant them and will be able to assess how they grow and whether they will grow at all after the flight into space. It is known that seeds of other plants also fly into orbit. And also mice, flies and ants.
