Today the Belarusian fire service turns 165. On July 25, 1853 the Minsk provincial government and the city's representative assembly decided to set up a fire department. It was from this time on that the firefighting service finally became part of government operations. Now this day is celebrated as the Day of Fire Service. Today, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus carries out the full range of emergency rescue operations, from the elimination of fires to accident control at oil and gas pipelines. More than once Belarusian rescuers took part in large international exercises and humanitarian missions.
