Belarus intends to complete the deployment of 4G networks in the near future and use them to start developing 5G technology. The statement was made by First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Turchin after the government conference held by the head of state to discuss the development of the telecommunication market. At present 4G cellular communication services are available to roughly 75% of the country’s population. The first few 5G test zones were deployed in Minsk in late 2018. New technology will come in handy for industrial Internet access, unmanned transportation, video analysis, and a number of other applications. The fifth-generation network will provide the foundation for developing the industrial Internet of Things and the foundation for developing the infrastructure the Belarusian digital economy program needs.
