Today, Belarus recalls the tragedy of Khatyn. 74 years ago that village with all the inhabitants was destroyed by Nazi troops. 149 people in total, 76 of them children. In 1969 a memorial ensemble was built here, which became not just a monument to the Khatyn inhabitants, but to all the villages of Belarus destroyed in WWII. Only six people from Khatyn survived, including five children and one adult - Iosif Kaminsky. He became the prototype for the monument to an unconquered man. Today this monument is considered the personification of Belarus. The Day of Khatyn's tragedy in our country is observed every year. Commemorative events will be held today at the memorial complex.
