The new monument is the result of a civic initiative by city residents, which received support from local authorities. The composition was installed in the city park. On the pedestal is a figure of a firefighter covering a crack in the slab. The word "Chernobyl" is prominently displayed at the top of the slab, and the "Radiation" sign is in the lower corner. A red granite element symbolizes fire. The new monument is intended to commemorate the courage of these people and serve as a reminder to future generations of the cost of technological progress. More than 200 Chernobyl cleanup workers live in the Orsha District of the Vitebsk Oblast.
