National
Unity Day is celebrated in Belarus on 17 September. The President congratulated
the compatriots on the holiday. Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that National
Unity Day is a symbol of the restoration of historical justice and national
unity, which served as the basis for the development and strengthening of the
sovereign Belarusian statehood. "On 17 September, 1939, the involuntarily
divided people of our country gained integrity and freedom, which allowed
Belarusians to become the rightful owners of their land". Aleksandr
Lukashenko stressed that thanks to the unification, Belarusians preserved their
identity and ancestral spiritual values, defended the right to a peaceful life
in the Great Patriotic War, which they revived and confidently continue. The
President wished all Belarusians good health, happiness and prosperity.
