Today marks Turkmenistan"s Independence Day. The former Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic declared sovereignty in 1991. Prior to the main holiday, the central stadium of the Ashgabat sports complex hosted large-scale festivities dedicated to the 24th anniversary of the country"s independence.<br>President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has sent congratulations to Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.<br>Turkmenistan is one of Belarus" strategic partners in Central Asia. Last year, the volume of Belarus-Turkmenistan trade amounted to 195 million dollars.
