The UN General Assembly elected Belarus as a member of the Economic and Social Council for 2018-2020. One of the main substructures of the Organization includes 54 states that are elected for three years on a geographical basis. Six countries represent Eastern Europe. The Council is central to the work of the United Nations system in promoting all the three aspects of sustainable development - economic, social and environmental. It also coordinates the UN activities following the results of the UN conferences and meetings at the highest level.
