Belarusian breeders have developed a new sunflower variety that can compete with leading southern varieties. The yield is almost 50 centners, with an oil content of over 52%. The crop is adapted to Belarusian frosts and ripens 20 days earlier than similar varieties. Scientists are working on creating the Belarusian gold at the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. They conduct careful selection and crossbreeding. The result is over 150 lines of promising hybrids.
